Galactic Heroes - Planet Mercenary

A new campaign with many ideas stolen or plagiarised from different sources.

Goal       to play a series of connected science fiction games using a small figure count and a story line. An excuse to paint a lot of scifi figures. It is great timing as Pendraken have announced that they are releasing a series of science fiction races so this means I can have an excuse to buy them.

Galactic Heroes are the rules I am going to use. I was going to make some up but these were available and recommended on the wargames website so I have bought them and I think they will be perfect.

Planet Mercenary Background

Colonel Farnsworth was unceremoniously kicked out of the military due to poor decision making and high casualty rates. He thought this was tremendously unfair and has established a small mercenary company to showcase his ability and to maintain his military career

He has recruited a team of desperados and no hopers to fulfill his dream.

Lieutenant Leela the only valuable human member in the team. She has enlisted with the Colonel to escape the sexism of the Ladies Military Auxiliary Officers (LMAO)

Veteran, Leadership, Knife, pistol, assault gun

RoBro 785326A-5 A sentient robot kicked out of the RoboCorp due to rage issues, excessive violence and alcohol consumption. It must follow its programming so has joined because there is no choice.

Veteran Military Grade Robot, Computer Assisted aiming, HMG

Pvt Fry With his unemployment benefits exhausted, Fry enlisted for the food. Fry sees Farnsworth as the father he never knew and is hopelessly in love with Leela. He thinks if he wins enough glory, they both will notice him (they won’t).

Regular, Rifle, Grenade

Pvt Amy Daughter of a billionaire she has enlisted to break the monotony of endless wealth and to have something different to Instagram about. Backed up in multiple clones, death is just a short interruption while she is reset.

Grunt, pistol

DR Zoidborg (dreg) A deregistered doctor who was kicked out of practice because of unauthorised brain experimentation on patients. He enlisted for the fun of patching up patients who had no other choice but to use him. Also, from Colonel Farnsworth’s record he expects to get plenty of practice.

Regular, knife, Medic

Hermes Farnsworth’s trusted bureaucrat assigned by the government to monitor Farnsworth – able to unlock any computer.

Regular, pistol.

So now some photos

The team. Left to right . Dr Zoidberg, Hermes, Amy and her clones, Leela, RoBro and Fry. Background Old Bessie

Their Ship Old Bessie won in a poker game it is a left over relic of the Taurian wars last century. It has a lot of light years on the clock with one careful owner and a lot more not so careful. Dropships from the Taurian wars are prized by speculative logistics and enforcement organisations who work in the unofficial sector of the economy. Heavy armour, large cargo space and big engines make them ideal transports for quick deliveries followed by shooting as you leave.

10mm Terrain - Ruined City

I spent a bit of my time off at Christmas reorganising my wargames room. I found some city tiles from Dropzone Commander that I had not used because they were too fiddly. So I decided to make a new ruined city board and a new normal city board by sticking them to three pieces of 900x600mm mdf.

My previous ruined city featured in my Toot battle reports from February 2019 were not very good. So using the Dropzone Commander tiles would give me a good base for my city.

I found I did not have enough ruined buildings to really fill two boards so I used the leftover bits from the ruined building kits I had made before to make nine new ruined buildings. (new ruined buildings doesn't make any sense - that's language for you.)

I still need to make a few things. Extra ruined pylons for the elevated roadway and something to add a bit of depth to the roads that go underground and where one road goes under the other road.

So here are the pictures.

An overview of two of the boards

Anyway the final result is Ok for me. There is a third board which will add some variety and also be the perfect place for a new building I am getting that is perfect for any alien invasion.
The undestroyed city will feature the same layout, I will show that one soon.
