French Napoleonic Part 6.... 54th Line Infantry

Another regiment of line rolls off the painting desk. I seem to be able to paint one regiment a week so hopefully it will all be "over by Christmas"  ๐Ÿ˜‚

Thanks to Norm's advice on the last post I have also been able to correct the faces on the light infantry, cavalry and artillery so they are less pink blobby and more detailed.

The only thing that I am not a happy with* is the edges of the flags. I need to go over where the white of the paper edges shows.

* actually one of the many things I am not happy with but the only one I think I can fix. ๐Ÿ˜

Here is the glorious 54th

Hopefully I have got the shako pompoms the right colours.

Advancing in two ranks

Viva le Emperor ... charge the perfidious roast beefs

Figures 10mm from Pendraken as is the flag.

  1. More nice work Ben, pompoms look right to me. I generally do the white edge flag painting trick, although occasionally I do forget!

    1. Yes, painting flag edges will improve the look of the standard bearer. Progress continues. Remember, it is mass effect with 10s and not the individual that offers the bang at this scale.

    2. Thanks Keith and Jonathan. I will do the flag edges but may leave it to the end and do them all at once.

  3. Nicely done. I’m glad you said a week per unit, that feels about right, perhaps even a bit slower for me. I had been getting the impression from some quarters that one can fly through 10mm figures with the old paint brush, but I have never found that to be particularly true ….. I thought I was missing a trick! :-)

I like the progress list - a good. Motivator. Do you think you will put a small game down before the whole project is painted?

    1. Thanks Norm. Generally I try and do an hour's painting each evening. Over 5 nights i can get a unit completed and still have two evenings free. I am sure you are not missing any tricks. Your efforts are certainly inspirational for me.

Not sure if I will do a game as long as I have the painting bug going. It may be best to persevere and get them all done.

  4. crank 'em out, crank 'em out, crank em out!

Agree with JF. it's the mass effect that matters, no one is gonna look at one stand. Not even you.
and i've been meaning to ask, why no basing?

  5. Thanks Stew. I really do need to remind myself about the mass effect and not compare them to other people's 28mm figures.

For the basing, i used to flock bases but i did not like the look of them in towns or cities. But I have been thinking that this is unlikely to occur often, if at all, for Napoleonic's so may go back and flock them all to match the terrain mat I use.
The other reason not to flock 10mm bases is it seems to have the figures knee deep ๐Ÿ˜‚and can look a bit off. Probably should buy something shorter!

    1. i get it. But you can get 1mm static grass or just use really fine flock to decrease the 'standing thigh deep in a field." look. and really how often are the se troops gonna be in town or city, but more likely outside the Built-Up Area.
I mean they're fine as they are, don't get me wrong, and god knows we spend enough time painting the miniatures and I don't want to encourage anyone to do MORE of that bothersome chore. But if the appearance is bothering you I bet that is an easy solution and will only increase the mass effect of bringing all the bases together...
but also increase the work load. ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜†
